1. Information We Collect

Account information: When you register, we collect your username, email address, display name, and password (stored as a secure hash).

Content you submit: Pitches, episodes, scores, and profile information you submit through the platform.

Author payout information: If you upgrade to Author, we collect payout details (PayPal email or ACH banking information) to process revenue distributions. This data is encrypted at rest.

Usage data: IP addresses, browser type, pages visited, and time spent — collected automatically to improve the service.

2. How We Use Your Information

• To operate and improve the Novelhaus platform
• To process revenue distributions to Authors
• To enforce our Terms of Service and community guidelines
• To send service-related emails (account, payout, important updates)
• To comply with legal obligations (e.g., issuing 1099-K for authors earning $600+/year)

We do not sell your personal data to third parties. We do not display third-party advertising on the Platform.

3. Sharing & Disclosure

• Stripe Connect: We share payout information with Stripe to process Author revenue distributions.
• Legal requirements: We may disclose data if required by law, court order, or to protect the rights and safety of our users.
• Business transfers: In the event of a merger or acquisition, user data may be transferred to the successor entity.

4. Cookies & Tracking

We use session cookies to keep you logged in. We do not use third-party advertising or tracking cookies. Analytics, if any, are privacy-respecting and do not share individual data with third parties.

5. Data Retention

We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we immediately mask your personal information (email, display name) and flag the record as deleted. Some contribution records (pitches, episodes linked to published novels) may be retained for system integrity with anonymized attribution.

6. Your Rights

• Access & correction: You can view and update your profile at any time via Edit Profile.
• Deletion: You can delete your account via Account Settings. This immediately masks your PII.
• Data portability: Contact us to request a copy of your data in a machine-readable format.
• California residents (CCPA): You have the right to know what data we collect, request deletion, and opt out of the sale of your data (we do not sell data).

7. Security

We use industry-standard security measures including password hashing (bcrypt), HTTPS encryption, prepared SQL statements to prevent injection, and CSRF protection on all forms. Payout information is encrypted at rest. No security measure is 100% guaranteed; please use a strong, unique password.

8. Children's Privacy

Novelhaus is not directed to children under 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from minors. If you believe a minor has registered, please contact us and we will remove the account promptly.

9. International Transfers

Novelhaus is operated by SAMCHEONGHAUS Inc. and primarily serves US users. If you access the Platform from outside the United States, your data may be transferred to and processed in the US. By using the Platform, you consent to this transfer.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be communicated via email and on-platform notice at least 14 days before taking effect.
