Contributor Terms

How contributions work here, in plain language. These terms replace the Author Terms and the Single Writer Agreement in full.

Effective: September 7, 2026 You keep 100% copyright No shares · No payouts
The whole deal in four lines

You keep the copyright in everything you write. Novelhaus takes no percentage of it and pays no money for it. What you get is a permanent public credit and a story that grows past what you could finish alone. Nothing you contribute can ever be sold without your written agreement.

1. Who these terms cover

Every signed-in Novelhaus member who posts a pitch, rates a pitch, writes an episode, or develops a manuscript in the Single Writer workspace. There is no separate application, no tier, and no contract to counter-sign. Reading and writing are open to every member in good standing.

2. You keep your copyright

As between you and Novelhaus, you own the copyright in your original writing: pitches, episodes, complete manuscripts, and any cover art you made. Novelhaus does not acquire, share, or administer that copyright. There is no assignment, no work-for-hire, and no allocation of percentages.

Posting on Novelhaus grants a non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, store, format, display, and technically process your work so the site can show it to readers, plus the collaborative license in section 4 if you contribute to an open story. That license lasts while your work stays on the platform, and Novelhaus cannot sublicense it to anyone else for commercial use.

You remain free to publish the same work anywhere else at any time, including with a commercial publisher. You do not need our permission and you owe us nothing if you do. For a collaborative story, section 4 applies because other people's writing is mixed in with yours.

3. What you receive: credit

Attribution is the currency here. Every accepted contribution is recorded against your account name or pen name and displayed on the work.

  • The story-seed author is credited on every episode and on the finished novel.
  • Episode writers are credited on the finished novel in contribution order.
  • Cover and editorial contributors are credited separately.
  • You may set or change your public pen name at any time; credits update with it.
  • You may ask to have your name removed from a published work and replaced with "Anonymous."

Credit is a record of participation. It is not equity, not a royalty, not a percentage, and not a promise of any future payment. It confers no right to control, license, or veto the work as a whole beyond what section 4 says.

4. Collaborative stories

An open story is written by several people, and this is how the pieces fit:

  • You keep the copyright in the passages you wrote.
  • You grant Novelhaus and the other credited contributors a non-exclusive, royalty-free license to edit, arrange, combine, and publish your contribution as part of that story on Novelhaus, and to keep it published there.
  • Editors may cut, reorder, or revise for continuity. Substantive edits are made in service of the story, not to change its meaning against the contributor's intent.
  • Novelhaus holds no ownership share in the finished work and is not its exclusive rights administrator. The earlier structure that gave Novelhaus 52% and exclusive commercial authority is withdrawn.
  • No one — including Novelhaus — may sell, license, adapt, or commercially publish a collaborative work elsewhere without the written agreement of every credited contributor.

5. Single Writer projects

Single Writer is for members finishing their own manuscript. It is private until you publish it, it is not opened to community episodes, and it has no rating threshold.

  • You keep 100% of the copyright and full independent control.
  • Novelhaus provides drafting tools, AI assistance, optional editorial review, formatting, and hosting at no charge.
  • There is no commission and no revenue split. The previously published 70% author / 30% Novelhaus e-book allocation no longer exists, and no e-book sales run through the platform.
  • You can unpublish or delete your Single Writer work at any time, and export the manuscript text.

6. Withdrawing your work

Unpublished draftDelete it yourself at any time. It is gone from the platform.
Pitch with no episodes yetDelete or unpublish at any time.
Your own published solo novelUnpublish at any time; we remove it within a few days.
Episode in an open storyWithdraw before the story is finalized and we remove it, then let the following writers adjust.
Contribution inside a finished collaborative novelWe can remove your credit or make it anonymous on request. Removing the text itself would break other people's work, so we discuss options with you rather than deleting it automatically. If you have a serious reason — a legal claim, a safety issue, an error you need corrected — tell us and we will find a way to fix it.

7. AI assistance

Novelhaus uses AI to organize contributions, propose structure, assemble drafts, edit, and translate. You review and approve anything you submit under your name. AI assistance does not make the output ours, and it does not guarantee that the result qualifies for copyright protection — that depends on how much human authorship it holds.

We do not use your private or unpublished writing to train general-purpose AI models. If that ever changes, we will ask first and you can decline without losing access.

8. What you promise

  • The work is yours. You did not copy someone else's book, and you have the rights to anything you incorporated.
  • You follow the Content Policy — no sexual content, no gratuitous violence, nothing involving minors in a sexual context, no harassment, no plagiarism.
  • You are 18 or older.
  • You do not manipulate ratings or contribution records.

Contributions that break these promises are removed, and repeat violations end the account.

9. If Novelhaus ever becomes commercial

No retroactive claim, ever

If Novelhaus later offers paid features or a publishing arrangement, it will be a separate written agreement that you decide whether to sign. It will apply only to work you specifically opt in, only from that point forward. Nothing you contribute under these terms can be converted into a revenue claim, an ownership share, or an exclusive license without your explicit, separate consent.

10. Superseded agreements

These Contributor Terms replace the Author Terms and the Single Writer Agreement in full. The 52% / 12% / 36% copyright and revenue allocation, the centralized rights administration authority, the Stripe Connect distribution, and the 70/30 e-book split no longer apply to any work, whether contributed before or after the effective date above. SAMCHEONGHAUS Inc. releases any claim it held under those documents.

11. General

  • These terms sit under the Terms of Service; where they address contribution matters specifically, they control.
  • We give at least 30 days' notice before any material change to these terms, and your rights in work you already contributed will not be reduced retroactively.
  • Delaware law governs, and the dispute process in the Terms of Service applies.
